6 Ways to Stay Healthier at Work

As we ring in the new year, many of us want to find ways that we can improve ourselves in the upcoming months. One of the easiest and most important things to improve upon is our health, especially at work where our habits tend to not be the best. Here are 6 things you can do regularly to ensure you stay healthier in 2019!

  1. Eat sensibly
    • As we stated in our article about New Years Resolutions, it’s often way too easy to grab fast food for breakfast or lunch when you’re working. It’s also easy to mindlessly eat junk food while you’re hard at work. Alleviate these temptations by packing your own lunch, and snack on healthy things, like fruit and granola, rather than oily food, like chips or cupcakes. You know what they say; eat good, feel good!
  2. Drink more water
    • Drinking enough water throughout the day will help you in numerous ways; drinking enough water aids in digestion, prevents headaches, and averts drowsiness, among other benefits. Try also replacing a caffeinated beverage with water throughout the day, to gradually beat any caffeine addiction you might have!
  3. Work on your posture
    • Posture is one simple thing to fix to improve your back health, and your overall well-being. Here at Rohrer Bus, most of our teammates spend their workdays sitting, whether that be at a desk or in the driver’s seat. The longer you stay sitting, the more you tend to sink down, which causes strain to your neck and spine. Make a conscious effort to sit tall, and if you find your head sinking forward, try a simple exercise, that involves faking a double chin, to support your neck.
  4. Take a break
    • This tip is more for our office and shop teammates, as our drivers get a long break in the middle of the day to stretch their legs or do whatever else they like! For our full-time teammates, taking a break from your work is essential every now and then, for a couple reasons. Firstly, if you work on a computer, too much screen time can strain your eyes. Also, you need to give your brain a break, and you’ll return more productive than you would be if you worked straight through the day!
  5. Keep your work area clean
    • How often do you clean your workspace? Chances are it’s not often enough! Make a habit of wiping down your area at least once a week to get rid of any allergy-causing dust and kill any germs. This is especially important for anybody who sits by a sick coworker or drives any sick kids!
  6. Interact with your Wellness Coach
    • Here at Rohrer Bus, we have a Wellness Coach that comes to our office and visits different school districts about once a week (just another one of the benefits of working for Rohrer Bus)! Our Wellness Coach is there as an optional resource for all our teammates; they help us out by keeping record of our weight and blood pressure, as well as helps us talk through any physical or mental health issues we have. Our Wellness Coach has helped many of our teammates discover and identify concerns before they ended up sick!

We want all of our teammates to stay healthy, so if you have any health tips of your own, feel free to share them in the comments below! Cheers to a healthier 2019!
