Do You Have What It Takes to Be a School Bus Driver?
Being a School Bus Driver is rewarding and fun, but there are a few prerequisites people need to meet before they can become one. Do you have what it takes? The simplest way to know is by answering these few questions:
-
Do you have a good criminal record?
-
Do you have a good driving record?
-
Are you at least 21 years old?
-
Do you have a valid Driver’s License and have been driving for at least one year?
-
Do you love kids?
If you answered yes to these couple of questions, then congrats! You would make a great school bus driver!
Now, to clear up some things you might still be wondering.
You have to have a valid standard driver’s license to apply to be a school bus driver, but that’s it; you don’t need to have a CDL! Of course, if you already have your CDL, you’ll be a step ahead in your training, but we’ll pay for our future bus drivers’ training and licensing as long as they held a standard driver’s license for at least one year.
We’d also like to go into a bit more detail about what we mean by a good criminal and driving record. Obviously, if you have a squeaky-clean background, that’s great! But, if your criminal or driving record is less than perfect, you’re not automatically disqualified. When we perform our standard background checks, we look into various factors, including the nature and severity of the incident, how long ago it occurred, if you’ve learned a lesson from it, etc., to determine if you’re eligible to become a school bus driver.
We put these few regulations in place to give our applicants a fair chance at joining the Rohrer Bus team, while also making sure that our students are in the safest hands possible.
