Employee Recruitment Portal

Welcome all Rohrer Bus and Van drivers! Here is a comprehensive guide full of tips and supplies to help you recruit other bus and van drivers, and, of course, earn referral bonuses!

What is the Referral Bonus program

About a year ago, we reworked our referral bonus program to include bus and van drivers, as well as shop and office employees. This means ALL Rohrer Bus employees can earn a referral bonus if they refer a qualified employee to a driving, shop, or office position.

The referral bonus for EVERYONE (van drivers, bus drivers, office workers, and shop workers) is $200. You receive the bonus only once the employee you refer gets hired and earns $2000 with Rohrer Bus. The employee you refer MUST state explicitly on their application and in their initial interview that you referred them, in order for you to be considered for a referral bonus.

We’re currently looking to hire school bus and van drivers in many school districts. Refresh yourself with all the details of driving a school bus or driving a school van!

What can I do to recruit other drivers?

There are SO many ways to recruit other drivers! The examples that we’re providing are by no means the only ways to recruit, and hopefully our suggestions will spark your creativity and help you form your own recruitment ideas!

Social Media

Using social media, especially Facebook, is one of the best and most versatile ways to recruit other drivers. In fact, there’s so much to talk about that we created a whole video tutorial and toolkit to give you a head start! Use the password: recruitment2019 to view the page.

Conversation Tips

Having a conversation with somebody you’d like to recruit will let you gauge how they feel about driving a bus or van. As a result, having a conversation is the best way to convince people to look into the job, as you can engage them in a two-sided discussion and directly address any questions or fears they might have.

Of course, you’ll want to be ready to tell them a bunch of great reasons to drive a school bus or van. If you checked out our Social Media Toolkit linked in the section above, the term “competitive advantage” will sound familiar. Our competitive advantages are what sets us apart from other school bus companies/ other companies in general, and make driving for Rohrer Bus a great option. You can talk about the following points:

  • Bringing up to two pre-school aged kids on the bus with you
    • If you put one child in daycare, you have to make $27k to be better off financially than a school bus driver who brings their child with them
  • 401K with employer match
  • Paid training and licensing
  • Vision insurance
  • Serving the community and making a difference in a child’s life- all while getting paid
  • Annual Knoebels Company Picnic
  • Driver Appreciation Breakfasts
  • Safety and Attendance Bonuses
  • Safety Breakfasts
  • New Hire Breakfasts
  • Have the middle of your days free for errands, doctor’s appointments, etc.
  • Have weekends, holidays, and summers off (can claim unemployment in the summer)

You can also talk about ANYTHING you love about your job. If the person you’re talking to knows that you enjoy your job, they’ll be more likely to believe that the job is right for them!

Predicting Hangups

You’ll also want to discover any hesitations they have about the job. Ask if they have any questions, or if anything about driving a school bus or van worries them. Two of the most common worries we hear include:

  • “Driving a school bus looks too hard/scary.”
    • You can respond with “all of the bus drivers I know say that after a couple hours of training, it’s just as easy as driving the family car!”
  • “I don’t have a CDL, so I can’t do it.”
    • You can respond with “Rohrer Bus provides all CDL training and pays you to train if you’d like to drive a school bus. If you’d like to drive a van, all you need is your standard driver’s license!”

If they ask a question that you’re unsure how to answer, our Personnel team will be more than willing to help them out! You can just pass along the phone number of the Rohrer Bus office closest to you:

Pull-tab Flyers

If you’d like to try a simple method of recruiting that involves printing and hanging paper, you can go around town distributing pull-tab flyers! You can go to local shops, supermarkets, gyms, churches, restaurants, parks, etc.; anywhere where you think your flyer might get some attention. Just make sure to ask for permission to hang the flyer up.

One helpful tip we have is to keep track of where you go, and record whether you’re allowed to put up a flyer or not. That way, you can go back to check on your old flyers and replenish if needed, and know which places you can skip the next time you go out hanging flyers.

Click on the Rohrer Bus office closest to you to download the correct version of the pull-tab flyer:

Also, don’t forget to write your name or employee number on the back of each pull-tab so the person who takes the tab can let us know that you hung the flyer!
